On the phone with Stephen just now, I mentioned that one of the things I will miss most when Duff and the girls get back is the quiet. When all the kids are here they talk to me almost continuously. They can't help it. But it prevents me from thinking in complete sentences, much less paragraphs, which over time becomes like a form of sleep deprivation. When I'm by myself, however, it's very quiet because I spend pretty much all my time thinking, and reading, and thinking. While they were gone I was able to think normally and for extended periods. After a while, I actually started to feel like myself.
