They picked up the pipe bomber outside Reno today and booked him into the Washoe County Jail. A Washoe County sheriff told the TV news reporter that they have 56 beds available for government agencies to use. A woman from Reno showed up outside the jail with her small children and held up a big cardboard sign, on which she had spray-painted the words PIPE BOMBERS SUCK in foot-high letters. She was angry that the guy was on his way to her city when he was apprehended. I am fascinated by people like this woman, standing there in the cold with her piece of cardboard and its self-evident message of protest and indignation. When she spoke on camera, she didn't seem like a total nutter, but then you have to wonder, just who is she hoping to sway? The pipe bomber? Or maybe she is trying to dissuade other pipe bombers from coming to Reno?
