It has been brought to my attention that we are not baseball people. We are soccer people. (We are also football people, by default, but we are definitely not baseball people.) Baseball is for good old boys and Republicans. Why do you think so many of them chew tobacco?

Of course there are notable liberal exceptions to the rule of baseball politics, but these people are continuing a lifelong love affair with the sport in spite of its demographics. They aren't representative of the audience. Sort of like me listening to country music.

This explains how I can go to a baseball (well, in this case, softball) practice and come away muttering, "What is UP with these people?"

"They're baseball people," Duff said. "We're soccer people."

Oh.

To tell the truth, I think Duff follows EVERY professional sport. He can speak authoritatively about football, hockey, and NCAA basketball. You bring up any sport and he can talk about it. Curling, sumo wrestling, whatever you want. But he turns up his nose at baseball. Funny.
